There are anĀ infinite number of shapes that this technique can be utilized on. The concept here is to have two parallel surfaces where the clamping pressure can be applied.
In this example, the four chair arm pieces required regluing. As you can see, the arm has no parallel edges, so I cut out the necessary cauls in order to achieve these parallel edges.
Make the cauls large enough to hook over some adjacent corner or curve to keep the cauls from sliding off the assembly and accommodate clamps at the joints for maximum clamping pressure where needed.
